Smart Clicks Tackles Internet Safety and Gaming Balance for K-12 Students
SteamRocket, a leading advocate for hands-on STEAM education, is proud to announce the launch of Smart Clicks, an engaging and interactive assembly designed to equip K-12 students with the tools they need to navigate the digital world safely and responsibly. This 55-minute program addresses key issues such as social media safety, scam avoidance, cyberbullying, and video game addiction.
As an organization dedicated to empowering children through STEAM-based programs like Minecraft Coding Club, LEGO Robotics, and micro:bit workshops, SteamRocket understands that internet use is a crucial component of learning and exploration. “The internet is a powerful tool, and it’s central to the programming courses we offer,” said Justin Decker, co-founder of SteamRocket. “We feel a responsibility to ensure that the children and families who trust us are aware of the risks and how to navigate them safely.”
The research underscores the need for digital literacy:
👉 Kids spend an average of 4-7 hours daily online
(Source: Common Sense Media).
👉 One in three young users encounters harmful or inappropriate content annually.
👉 Over 20% of students report experiencing cyberbullying
(Source: Pew Research Center).
"Our mission with Smart Clicks is to empower students to use the internet as a resource while understanding the risks," said Elle Decker, co-founder of SteamRocket. "This program not only addresses dangers like scams and cyberbullying but also helps students recognize the signs of video game addiction and how to maintain a healthy balance."
What Makes Smart Clicks Unique?
👉 Tailored Content: Age-appropriate lessons for K-12 students.
👉 Interactive Format: Hands-on activities, real-world scenarios, and dynamic discussions.
👉 Video Game Focus: Guidance on building healthy gaming habits and avoiding addiction is a growing concern, with 8.5% of youth worldwide showing signs of gaming disorder (Source: American Psychological Association).
Empowering Communities: Focusing on kindness, responsibility, and staying vigilant in an increasingly digital world.
The program reinforces SteamRocket’s belief in harnessing the internet for growth, innovation, and exploration while arming kids with tools to avoid pitfalls.
Smart Clicks will be available to schools and organizations throughout Coachella Valley beginning this spring. Assemblies can accommodate up to 100 students, with discounted rates available for multiple same-day sessions.
