SteamBots: LEGO Robotics Club Launching in Palm Desert in October

Excitement is building in Palm Desert as SteamRocket unveils a brand-new program designed to inspire young minds is set to launch next month. SteamBots: LEGO Robotics Club, aimed at children ages 9 to 13, will provide an engaging and hands-on experience in coding, robotics, and teamwork. Through fun weekly sessions, kids can learn critical STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) skills in a dynamic and creative environment.

Set to begin in October, the club will offer participants a chance to build and program robots using LEGO SPIKE Prime kits, all while working together to solve exciting, real-world-inspired challenges. The club is aligned with the FIRST LEGO League, an international robotics competition that encourages students to think creatively and develop solutions to complex problems using technology.

“We’re incredibly excited to bring SteamBots to Palm Desert,” says Justin Decker, co-founder of SteamRocket. “This is much more than just building with LEGO. It’s about igniting a passion for science and technology, helping kids think critically, and giving them the tools to solve tomorrow’s problems in a fun, supportive space.”

A Hands-On Learning Experience
In SteamBots, participants will do more than assemble LEGO robots—they’ll learn to code, program their robots to complete specific tasks, and engage in missions based on real-world issues. Whether it’s simulating space exploration, designing eco-friendly cities, or coming up with creative solutions to environmental challenges, SteamBots allows kids to combine their love for building with technology that has a real impact.

One of the program's key elements is its focus on teamwork and collaboration. Participants will work in small groups to design and build their robots, learning how to communicate effectively and solve problems together. SteamBots also emphasizes Core Values like Gracious Professionalism®, ensuring that students learn the importance of teamwork, respect, and helping others while they work toward a shared goal.

No Experience Needed
Parents wondering if their child needs prior coding or robotics experience need not worry. SteamBots is designed for both beginners and experienced young engineers. Coaches and mentors will guide students every step of the way, helping them learn the basics of coding and robot-building or advance their existing skills.

Whether a child has never touched a LEGO set or is already building complex models at home, SteamBots welcomes all skill levels with open arms. “We’re here to make sure everyone learns and grows in a fun, supportive environment,” says Decker. “The goal is for the kids to leave every session feeling more confident, creative, and excited about what they can accomplish.”

Building a Future in STEAM
The importance of STEAM education cannot be overstated in today’s fast-changing world. By introducing students to robotics and programming at an early age, SteamBots: LEGO Robotics Club hopes to spark a lasting interest in STEAM fields, potentially leading to careers in technology, engineering, or science. According to SteamRocket, the program aims to bridge the gap between play and learning, making STEAM subjects more approachable and exciting for young students.

“Technology is such a big part of the world we live in, and it’s crucial that kids not only understand it but feel confident using it to create solutions,” Decker explains. “With SteamBots, we want to show kids that the sky’s the limit when it comes to what they can build, code, and achieve.”

Join the Club
SteamBots: LEGO Robotics Club will hold weekly meetings starting in October at Palm Desert. Each session will last approximately 60 minutes, and participants will work on different projects and missions every week. As the club progresses, the group will also be able to compete in FIRST LEGO League competitions in 2025, putting their skills to the test in a fun and exciting environment.

Spaces are limited, and the community's response is expected to be high. Parents are encouraged to register early to ensure their child’s spot in this thrilling new program.
